About Jack Egglestone

I grew up in Portsmouth, and from an early age I played the trumpet and gained experience performing in a brass band in the local area (cornet and soprano cornet).  This is where I first gained my interest in music and performing.

At the age of 13 I started to play the drum kit and joined local jazz and wind bands. I also started playing in rock and jazz bands with school buddies.

I studied music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, specialising in jazz drum kit, gaining a degree in music (BMus Hons). During this time, I played percussion for the Cory Brass Band, performing in some of the top concert venues in Europe.

Just after graduating I joined the rock band Mclusky in mid 2003.  I toured the world for the next 18 months and recorded our 3rd album ‘The Difference Between me and you is that I’m not on fire’ in Electrical Audio in Chicago with the great Steve Albini.

After Mclusky disbanded, I started Future of the Left with former bandmate Andrew Falkous.  We released 5 studio albums and toured the world between 2006-2019 having a blast of a time.

In 2019 Mclusky reformed for a few shows, and we had loads of fun so decided to carry on.  2025 saw the release of ‘The world is still here and so are we’, Mclusky’s fourth album and first for 21 years with multiple tours around the world in 2025/26.

Aside from playing in bands, I’m a full-time drum kit tutor with over 300 pass or above grade exams.  I also lead music workshops for different groups of adults.  These often include playing hand drums or singing songs from my extensive songbook collection.

I live just outside Cardiff with my wife, 2 children and 2 cats.
